Shopping in Thailand is really cheap and you probably end up buying a lot of souvenirs. Because of the weather is so good all year around you should pack light and save room for all your shopping.
My advice when visiting Thailand is to take a carry-on luggage with you and another checked bigger piece of luggage.
On the carry-on pack at least a change of clothes, flip-flops, a bathing suit and toiletries. You never know if your luggage is going to be stuck and arrives a few days after. It happened to me on the way to Bangkok when I had a connexion flight in Frankfurt. It isn’t a nice way to start your vacations after a 14H flight, but because I was prepared and had everything I need for the next day it didn’t bother me at all. My bag arrived on the next day, as promised, and delivered to my Hotel.
I stayed 3 night at Casa Nithra Hotel. It was a 10 min walk from the Kao San road. It was near everything but far away from the noisy streets.
I definitely recommend this area because you can walk basically around all city centre without having to take a taxi or tuk tuk.
I recommend 2 full days in Bangkok without counting the flight days. If you’re planning on going to the ancient capital Ayutthaya or the floating markets they require more time.
I arranged the transfer from the airport with my Hotel and take around 30 min with no traffic.
