While in Lanzarote it’s almost mandatory to visit a winery, or at least to drive by the unique vineyards that can be found along the road LZ-30.
What you will find it’s a dark land painted of green like you’ve never seen it before.
I visited the El Grifo’s wine cellar, one of the 10ths oldest winery in all Spain and I had the chance to learn more about the incredible way the vines are planted in the sand and volcanic lava that covered the La Geria area back in 1730.
I saw the vineyards planted in big holes made in the ground and surrounded by walls used to protect them against wind.

While here I also had the chance to see some of the old instruments used in the winemaking process and to taste some wine produced with the “Malvasia” and the “Listrán Negro” grapes.

Visiting EL Grifo you have the option of self-guided visit that costs 5€ per person which includes the tasting of 1 wine. Or if you prefer you can get a guided visit which they offer you 3 options with different prices and schedules.

I went on a few excursions here and it is amazing how the vineyards are kept and grown in the volcanic rock. Absolutely love the wine from there too! 👌🏻🍷
